I provide in-service workshops on effective, strategy-based literacy instruction. I have been presenting in Western New York school districts and Teacher Centers for over 15 years.

I developed my presentations on using the 6+1 traits model for writing instruction after completing introductory and advanced training given by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL). I applied these methods as an elementary classroom teacher, and include student samples and proven lessons in my presentations.

I have experience as a Literacy Coach and Reading Specialist in an elementary school, and have worked with teachers and students using The Daily Five and CAFE model. This has proven to be an effective instructional method to meet the Common Core Learning Standards.

Creating Writers Through The

Six Traits Of Writing Instruction

Description: Would you like to improve the quality of your students' writing and the quality of your writing instruction?   This workshop will show you how to systematically teach your students the six traits of Idea Development, Voice, Word Choice, Organization, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions; all of which are rated on the New York State Assessments, including the ELA.   By using the language of the traits and rubrics developed by teachers, students can learn to take their writing to a new level through self- assessment and revision.
